Marcin de Kaminski

Marcin de Kaminski is the Director for Security and Innovation at Civil Rights Defenders; working on safety, security and support for targeted individuals and communities in some of the world’s most unfree countries. He has a background as a sociologist and internet researcher, and has a specific expertise in the intersection of technology and human rights. 


He previously worked as a Policy Specialist at the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), with a specific focus on ICT and freedom of expression online. He coordinated large parts of Sida’s efforts within the digital sector, focusing on human rights and accessibility issues but also media literacy and digital development. Marcin was also part of the team at Sida organizing the Stockholm Internet Forum, which gathers participants from around the world to discuss issues of internet freedom technology, governance, and related issues. He has previously been involved in various projects related to internet freedom, social innovation and entrepreneurship.


At Civil Rights Defenders Marcin leads a team focused on creative supports to human rights defenders. Among the flag ship projects his team are working on one can find the rapidly growing rapid response mechanism of the CRD Emergency Fund; the Natalia Project - the worlds is the world’s first security alarm system for human rights defenders at risk; and Defenders’ Days, a networking event for hundreds of human rights defenders gathering in Stockholmand additional hundreds participating through secure hybrid solutions in October 2022.
