Maddy Savage

Moderator at Gather 2022

Maddy Savage is a Stockholm-based reporter, broadcaster and audio producer with a passion for innovation. Originally from the UK, she’s been storytelling for the BBC for almost two decades, both as a staff journalist and as a freelance foreign correspondent.

Maddy has written extensively about Nordic tech, culture and lifestyle trends and is currently focussed on long-form audio projects. Since 2020, she has produced and presented a range of radio documentaries and podcasts for the BBC, all with the common thread of exploring solutions to global challenges – from loneliness to domestic violence, household waste and stigmas around menstruation.

Maddy is a regular contributor to BBC Worklife, the BBC's digital guide to navigating change – and thriving – in our professional and personal lives. She’s also freelanced for global media including NPR, The Telegraph, Monocle and Lonely Planet, and is a former Editor of Sweden’s biggest English-language news site, The Local Sweden.

An early adopter who launched her own podcast profiling Swedish entrepreneurs back in 2016, a year later Maddy was listed as one of the 100 most impactful tech profiles in the Nordics by Slush and The Nordic Web. This led to her becoming a popular host for startup and business events. Her recent assignments include moderating panel discussions and live streams for Nordic Business Forum, Next M and the Swedish Entrepreneurship Forum, and she’s a regular on stage at Gather.

Outside of work, Maddy loves immersing herself in Sweden’s great outdoors, and you’ll find her running, hiking, swimming or picnicking at her favorite nature spots.
